Description:
The Kindergarten and First Grade years are critical in establishing a strong mathematical foundation, particularly in areas such as counting,
cardinality, addition, and subtraction. Join us as we delve into the Stages of Early Arithmetical Learning (SEAL), a developmental progression
created by Dr. Les Steffe, which describes how children develop an understanding of these essential mathematical concepts. We then align the SEAL
to the Kentucky Academic Standards and consider instructional tasks and techniques to foster and enhance your students’ mathematical thinking.
- Session 1 (3 hours) We explore the Stages of Early Arithmetical Learning through video exemplars and collaborative discussions.
- Session 2 (3 hours) We align the SEAL framework with the Kentucky Academic Standards-Mathematics for Kindergarten and First Grade, and consider teaching exemplars designed to help students achieve proficiency in the Counting and Cardinality (CC) and Operations and Algebraic Thinking (OA) domains.
Cost: Free
Note: This opportunity is recommended for kindergarten and first grade teachers, math interventionists in grades K-3, and anyone who supports or mentors K-1 teachers. Sessions are synchronous Zoom meetings and will NOT be recorded. Capacity is limited, so if you register and will be unable to attend, please notify KCM so we can make your spot available to another educator.
