Preschool to K	Teaching Math Early Learning Standards to Young Children with Significant Disabilities Presenter: Sarah Hawkins-Lear More>> Abstract: Three research studies utilized a multiple probe design to teach math skills to eight 3 to 5-year-old children with significant disabilities. Systematic instruction was embedded across routines and activities to teach the skills. Results indicated that math skills were acquired with high levels of accuracy when compared to baseline data. The children also maintained and generalized the math skills with 100% accuracy.	Terrace Ballroom

6 to Post-secondary	Introduction to Randomization Tests Using Mythbusters Presenter: Brooke Buckley More>> Abstract: A popular Mybusters' episode investigates the idea of contagious yawning. Using video clips from the mini-episode, participants will be introduced to statistical tests of significance using randomization techniques. This alternative approach to hypothesis test can give students a firmer conceptual understanding of significance tests. K to 1	The Power of Number Lines Presenter: Vonda Stamm & Tami Pickett More>> Abstract: The number line is an effective—but often overlooked—tool for kindergarten and first grade students. Join us in this session as we explore using the number line to help students count (including skip counting), compare numbers, and solve addition and subtraction problems. 4 to 12	Reflections on Three Years of Flipped Classrooms Presenter: Theodore Hodgson More>> Abstract: Many have an opinion about flipped classrooms. Some are opposed to the concept, citing technological inequities or a focus on mathematics procedures, while others hail flipped classrooms as 21st century instruction. With the support of the Kentucky Council on Post-Secondary Education, Northern Kentucky University has partnered with the KCM, Murray State University, the Kentucky Valley Educational Cooperative, and approximately 120 K-12 teachers in 35 school districts to develop and implement flipped classroom instruction. Like opinions about the flipped classroom, we have observed numerous success stories and some cautionary tales. In this presentation, I will reflect on both quantitative and qualitative outcomes of the four-year FLIP project (and the results of several other flipped classroom projects). On the basis of these data, I will offer some initial recommendations about the flipped classroom — and the strategies, tools, and settings that promote success.	Terrace Ballroom

Students' videos are used in PD in the development of purposeful questioning, as well as develop understanding of the developmental aspect of mathematics. From this collaboration, many math instructional strategies were learned, shared, and implemented. In particular, the coaches will share one instructional strategy called Number Talks. As a matter of act this is a practice that you could implement as soon as you get back to your classroom! Think Number Talks are just for Elementary students? 6 to Post-secondary	Transitioning to Proof: How Productive Struggle Can Hold the Key for Potential Success Presenter: Jay Schiffman More>> Abstract: Proof provides mathematics with its essence. Utilizing elementary number theory, algebra and discrete mathematics, participants construct neat elementary proofs. Groups pose proper questions, use examples to motivate, seek patterns, form conjectures, construct counterexamples and tweak hypotheses to sometimes salvage false statements with encouragement from the presenter. We conclude by developing convincing arguments at various grade levels. Activities from Grade 6 onward are selected from a variety of sources. Both the CCSS and mathematics teaching practices are featured, including supporting productive struggle in learning mathematics, using and connecting mathematical representations and posing purposeful questions. However, most traditional methods used to calculate them use distributional assumptions (e.g. Normality). What happens when these distributional assumptions fail? This presentation will demonstrate through an activity how to construct confidence intervals based on a randomization-based method that is expected in the Common Core State Standards.	Dixiana
