What made you decide to become an educator?
I became an educator because I love working with children!

What excites you most about being an MAF Mathematics Intervention Teacher?
The most exciting thing about being an MAF Mathematics Intervention Teacher is knowing I am in a teaching position that could change a child’s perspective on Math.

What differences have you seen in your students since they began receiving intervention assistance?
Last year, after my students began receiving intervention assistance, I saw them become more successful in the classroom. But the best change was their attitude! No more, "I hate Math."

What is one, favorite story or “a-ha!” moment you’ve had with one (or more) of your intervention students? Why is this your favorite?
One of my favorite moments was when I was releasing a second grader from my intervention group. He was sad about it, but told me it was okay, he knew other kids in his class needed me and he didn't anymore. Knowing that he was leaving my group with confidence was priceless!

What does the MAF and the Kentucky Center for Mathematics mean to you?
The MAF grant has been a wonderful opportunity for me to gain knowledge and skills that I need to identify areas where my students can grow, and to provide the setting that makes the growth possible.

The KCM has been a wonderful support to me as an MAF Mathematics Intervention Teacher. The staff members are knowledgeable, helpful, and truly care about Kentucky schools.

What advice would you give to a colleague or other educator if they had never attended a KCM professional learning experience before?
I would advise all math teachers to attend one of KCM's professional learning experiences. The knowledge you gain will assist you with designing instruction that meet your student’s needs at their present level of development.

What activities, organizations, hobbies, etc. do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I love spending time with my family, my pets, and camping. I’m never happier than when I can do all three at the same time!

What is your favorite pizza topping?
My favorite pizza topping is cheese.

What was your favorite childhood television show?
The Cosby Show.
